Elements and Principles in 3D (PAPER)

Repetition

I wanted to use a different medium for this sculpture. I wanted to explore the different shapes that can be made from paper that is folded and messed with. I originally made different sized figures of folded paper and then started stacking them to make a repetitive stance. Repetition was my main focus on this piece. Thin strips of masking tape line the outside edge of the figures.  I found that turning the piece to lie on different sides created a new viewpoint and space with every turn, but found this final stance to have the greatest impact.

Focal Point

I focused on the element of focal point for this piece. I did not have an original intent at the start of this piece, but decided to challenge myself in incorporating all of the materials required. I started out folding long strips of white card-stock paper until I had the shape that satisfied my liking. Masking tape then molded the shape together to add texture, but I realized early on that I needed a base that would be sturdy enough to hold the hanging "rope" ball of masking tape. Drips of Elmer's wood glue were added to the hanging ball to add more texture to the piece. I am overall satisfied with the results of this sculpture.

Texture

I was drawn to texture and wanted to use my childhood favorite activity of braiding and use it within this piece. Though very tedious and time-consuming, I enjoyed making this sculpture the most. The materials were somewhat easy to work with and once I had a concept and intent in mind, I was able to complete this with ease. This sculpture is entirely made up of different widths of masking tape.
